There is circuitry in the battery charger that communicates back to the mother board to keep you battery at optimum levels and leaving the battery in the laptop is the best place for it.

What wears the battery down is if you use it. My mothers laptop is 5 years old and still has the original battery in it, but it's always plugged in on the charger. Occasionally she forgets to plug it in and she gets a warning at 1 hour and 20 minutes that there is only 13% battery power left. This is a normal time for a 17 inch screen running at full brightness with a CCFL lamp.

tnx for ur help....

u say if I plug the charger always, when my battery start to charge??[coz the battery can close it's circuit by air and drain a little charge]

I am saying that when the battery is in place with the charger plugged in, and when the battery is fully charged (100%) it will stop charging. The system is designed not to over charge the battery ounce it's at 100%.

I knew, but my question is it:"when my battery start charging again" OR "how long it take to drain 1 persent?"

tnx for ur help my friend....

If I understand your question correctly.

It depends on how bright you set your screen and what your power settings are. Most HP laptops are set to "Balanced" and for the most part you get an hour and a warning that the laptop will shut down at 13%.

The battery will start charging again as soon as it drops below 100% and if it's at 1%, it may take an hour to fully charge. This depends how many cycles the battery has gone through over the months or years.

There aren't any programs to control battery charging for your laptop so it will always charge to 100%. Some business laptops (Lenovo and Dell) support battery thresholds and disabling charging.

the battery can become damaged over time if the computer constantly charges the battery from 99% to 100%. if you don't use your battery very often, you can drain it to 40-60% and remove it from your computer.

The battery can be worn down from not being used also. If you never use a laptop on battery, it may simply go bad one day. I have several batteries with very low cycles, and they don't work anymore. I also have a battery with nearly 800 cycles and it works perfectly.

HaggisCat: I don't understand where you're getting "you get an hour" from. Most laptops last around 2-6 hours with a battery that has little to no wear. Additionally, 13% is probably what you have your specific computer set to. The default tends to be around 4 or 5% when the computer hibernates or shuts down.

@ mariol190

 Thanks for the info.

My findings are based on my personal experiences with my machines. On my power hungry dv8 I am lucky to get hour with it's very inefficient duel CCFL lamps and inverter. I also have the power settings at max so yes, I do only get an hour, the same can be said for HDX machines. Even my little G61 with it's LED screen will get 1.5 hours and that has always been that way since new.

I should have checked the specs of beny98's machine, it is running an LED screen which is obviously way more efficient, so I could see him getting 2 or more hours from his battery. That also depends on his power settings too and what he's doing, as you know.

I never really bothered with the battery settings much, so far all my HP laptops have warned me at the 13% mark and I have never changed that, that is what it was set at when new.
