Thanks eng707 for the information on the area.

I think there's a distinct possibility there were some "alterations" made to the original picture. I agree with JustPassing about the view and the angles as well as the mysterious strip of land in the top left. I poked around some and found that Top Photo Corporation has the copyright to images very similar to the one in question here. Here's a link if any are interested...

ps JustPassing, You are much too perceptive to NOT be a geek.  🙂

I am a geography geek, and am most grateful for the research that has gone on here. I would never have guessed it was Taiwan - but my knowledge of the Far East is limited to bits of the PRC plus central HK. I also thought it looked like the Adriatic!

My brand new HP notebook did not come with this one. But it was on screen of the notebook displayed on the configure page. Is there any one that can upload this image in at least 1920x1080, but for 4K would be nice too, please & thank you.

It's C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper\Hewlett-Packard Backgrounds\backgroundDefault.jpg

But I couldn't upload it because "This file is too large. The maximum file size is 1,000K; this file is 1,165K."

Luckily, thanks to http://www.jpegmini.com, I've uploaded a mini version. Hope it will look okay.

Google "Jinguashi" for more images around that area:

Yeah it did not come with my Envy 15t. 😞 I have a snow capped mountain image. You can email it to me if you like please. My info is in my profile.

A huge thank you to those researchers who came up with the answer to this question! I just got a new HP laptop, LOVE this image, and, like everyone else, wanted to know where it was taken.

I wish it was San Simeon. I could drive there in a few hours. Unfortunately I cannot drive to Taiwan from California.  😉

Just a suggestion to the folks at HP.... Perhaps there might be some way of embedding photo credits into images that come with the computer...?

Again thanks to all!
