This article will explain how to update the Intel HD graphics driver on the above platform to the latest driver directly from Intel.

This works for both notebook and desktop PCs with the onboard Intel graphics adapter.

Look at the Intel driver file link in this article under the 'This download is valid for the product(s) listed below,' section for the complete list of supported processors and/or graphics adapters.

Important note:  If your PC has the switchable Intel/Nvidia or Intel/AMD graphics, this may cause issues with the discrete graphics adapter, based on the feedback from one of the comments at the bottom of this article.  If your notebook has a switchable graphics configuration, update the Intel graphics driver at your own risk.

Background...Many of us like to have the latest graphics drivers installed, and we may even find some programs will not work unless there is a certain version graphics driver installed.

However, when you download and run the latest Intel graphics driver, you are usually met with an error that states in substance that you need to use the customized Intel graphics driver from the PC's manufacturer.

Here is how to get around that error...

First, create a system restore point so that you can roll back to the current graphics driver you have installed, just in case the updated driver does not work to your expectations.

Next, download and save the latest Intel HD graphics driver 64-bit ZIP file from the link below. This is the last driver update Intel released for the 6th gen core processor graphics:

Intel® 6th-10th Gen Processor Graphics - Windows

Unzip the graphics driver file to its folder. Do not do anything with the files in the folder.

To unzip the file, right click on the graphics driver zip file you downloaded and select Extract All.

Go to the device manager, click to expand the Display Adapters device manager category.

Click on the Intel HD graphics adapter listed there.

Click on the driver tab. Click on Update Driver.

Select the 'Browse my computer for drivers' option, and then at the bottom of that window, select the Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.

Click on Have Disk and browse to the unzipped graphics driver folder>Graphics>iigd_dch (setup information file), click Next, and the driver should install.

Be patient, as it can take a few minutes for the driver to completely install.

When the installation is finished, restart the PC.

To update the Intel HDMI audio driver to the latest version, go to the device manager, click to expand the Sound, video and game controllers device manager category.

Click on the Intel HD audio device listed there.   Click on the driver tab.  Click on Update driver.

Select the Browse my computer for driver software option and browse to the unzipped Intel graphics driver main folder.

Make sure that the Include subfolders box is checked, and the driver will install.

Then restart the PC.
