Can the Office Jet Pro 8710 be made toprint in black and white if the color cartridges are depleted?

I have a simple question that I can't seem to get a direct answer to. Can the Office Jet Pro 8710 printer be forced to print in black and white when the color cartridges are depleted? Black and white is fine. I don't want or need color printing. This printer won't let me print without buying new color cartridges even though I have set the computer's print manager to black and white only.

It's not possible, the printer will stop printing if any ink cartridge is depleted.
