This is an "OfficeJet Pro" and is not listed in the "Category selection". Please fix this.
When I print, the paper comes out and goes on the floor. There is a gray plastic part that came attached to the feeder but had to be removed to load the paper. I spent several hours trying to find out what the purpose of this piece is and finally ended up talking to an hp rep who had to put me on hold for 5 minutes to find out. He said it wasn't required.
I can't load the paper when it's on and the paper goes to the floor when it is off...... now I can't get it back on.
I have looked everywhere to get a diagram of how this piece is to be used/attached, emailed hp and can not find anything.
How is it even possible that this information is not available with the set up instructions or on the hp website????
Am I missing something?
Can someone please help me? This can't be that difficult to resolve.
mike

Welcome to the HP English Community --
I might not understand what you are describing.
According to the images and information I found, the output tray need not be removed to add paper.
It does appear the paper catcher can (should) fold down into the Output tray when not in use and to load paper.
The tech is essentially correct -- the paper catcher is not necessary to the operation of the printer.
Said another way --
If the paper catcher is missing for any reason, the printer operates without it.
True, too: Unless there is "something" in place of the missing catcher, papers might sail to the floor when ejected from the printer.

Printer Top View -
Shows the output tray and the small paper catcher used to prevent papers from falling to the floor.
I did not find a specific instruction that explains having to remove the output tray to load paper.

Paper catcher can be folded down when not in use to protect the little catcher from being damaged.

I took a fresh look t it this morning and discovered that the paper supply tray and the paper "catcher" ray, being 2 separate pieces are individually supported in the paper supply "cavity" and so each can be pulled out.
For some reason I thought the "catcher" attached to the "supply" tray. My mistake......
In my defense, the instructions/diagrams for these pieces could be much better. A simple diagram showing them inserted separately would have been very helpful.
Thank you for your help.

You are welcome.
True - Illustrations offer only so much help.
Videos that offer a visual example are best in some cases.
Good to check / tap / pull and examine which parts do what.
