So the panel of my HP officejet 4650 has a question mark on it instead of a home button or display and I'm having trouble connecting or printing from my phone to the printer. I've done all the staples disconnect for 30 seconds, unplug from the wall unplug from the back of the printer and still I can't get the home button to come back up any suggestions?

Hi @Gayshagirl60,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like the printer display might be stuck or experiencing an issue. Let's try a few steps to see if we can get it back to normal.

Hard Reset:

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait for about a minute.
  • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
  • Turn on the printer.

Factory Reset (if necessary):

  • If the hard reset doesn't work, you might need to perform a factory reset.
  • Be aware that a factory reset will erase all settings on the printer.
  • To perform a factory reset:
    • With the printer turned on, locate the small pinhole on the back or side of the printer.
    • Use a paperclip or a similar tool to press and hold the reset button inside the pinhole for about 5-10 seconds.
    • The printer should reset and restart.

Update Firmware:

  • Sometimes firmware updates can fix bugs and issues with the printer.
  • Check the HP website for your specific printer model and see if there are any firmware updates available.
  • If there are, follow the instructions to update the firmware.

Check Connections:

  • Make sure the printer is properly connected to your Wi-Fi network.
  • Check if the Wi-Fi indicator light on the printer is stable (not blinking).
  • If it's not connected, you may need to run the wireless setup wizard on the printer to reconnect it to your Wi-Fi network.

HP Smart App:

  • If you're trying to print from your phone, ensure you have the HP Smart App installed.
  • Open the app and follow the instructions to add your printer.
  • The app should guide you through the setup process.

If none of these steps work, there might be a more serious hardware issue with the printer's display panel.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
