HP OfficeJet Pro 6978

I am having a lot of difficulty disabling the Dynamic Security/Cartridge Protection option.  I have attempted to install the firmware update for my HP Officejet Pro 6978 as per the instruction on https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05308850 article but it is giving me a "not supported" error and the HP easy start and HP Smart apps have it labled as "off" but I am still getting the error that it cannot print due to a non-genuine cartridge being installed.

Per my records I purchased the printer in late 2017, but I am unsure how to check the manufacture date to see if it is part of the Pre 2016 batch that this cannot be corrected on.

Hi @Awfulproducts,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like you're experiencing an issue with your printer cartridges. We always recommend using genuine HP ink cartridges.

I see that you have an issue using non-HP ink cartridges on your printer.

Please refer to the below links for more information related to your issue.

If you are using generic or Non HP ink cartridges and the above links do not help. You will have to contact the generic ink cartridge manufacturer to assist you further with it or you will have to use genuine HP ink cartridges to resume printing.

Please click “Accepted Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution. Click the “Kudos/Thumbs Up" on the bottom right to say “Thanks” for helping!

 I hope this helps.

Take care and have a great day ahead!
