I was in the process of scanning book pages and after about 100 pages I decided to save. I accidentally kicked the HDD that was open on the floor and lost the files before saving.
Is there any autosave or other way to reetrieve the files??

Hi @lbeck02,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be glad to help you!
I'm sorry to hear about the lost scanned files—it’s really frustrating to have everything in progress and then accidentally lose it! Let’s see if there’s any way to recover those images.
- Did the HP Smart app show any notification or auto-save message before you lost the files?
- Were the scanned files saved locally on your HDD, or were you attempting to upload them to cloud storage or a network location?
- Have you checked your computer's default "Scanned Documents" folder or the folder you set for saving scans?
Let's try these steps.
1. Check Auto-Save Locations
- Open the HP Smart app and check if there's a recent scan history or any temp folder that stores unsaved scans.
- If you didn’t choose a specific folder, HP Smart may save the files in a default location such as Documents > HP > Scanned Documents.
2. Check the Recycle Bin
- Sometimes, if files were accidentally deleted or lost, they may be in the Recycle Bin. Check there for any recent scan files.
3. Use File Recovery Software
- If the files were lost due to the HDD disconnection, you can try using file recovery software such as Recuva or EaseUS Data Recovery. These programs can scan your HDD for recently deleted files that may not have been fully erased.
4. Look for Temporary Files
- Check the Temp folder on your PC for any temporary scan files. These files often end with extensions like .tmp or .scanned.
- Open Run by pressing Windows + R, type %temp%, and press Enter. Look through the list for any files related to your scanning session.
5. Check HP Smart App Cloud or Backup Services
- If you had cloud storage enabled in the HP Smart app (Google Drive, OneDrive, etc.), it might have automatically uploaded your scanned pages.
- Log into your cloud storage to see if any scans were uploaded during the process.
If none of these options work and you’re unable to recover the files, you might need to try re-scanning the pages if you still have them.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
