There seems to be no way to remove an old printer from HP Smart.   I have tried to follow the directions I've found online, but it appears the HP Smart software has changed and the instructions no longer work.

Can someone tell me how to get rid of an old printer?

Hi @jonVN,

Welcome to the HP Support Community

I'd like to help!

I understand you need help removing your old printer from HP Smart App.

Lets us try these steps:

  • Open HP Smart and then click the Printer icon in the left bar.
  • Click on select a Different Printer, then click the Remove link on the right
  • Press the X mark of the unwanted printer tile to remove it and click on done.

If you are unable to delete the printer, then uninstall the HP Smart app and reinstall it and try the same steps.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hi.   Thanks for the help, but there is no printer icon in the left bar.   I'm able to get to the printer page by clicking on the circle with my initials in it, and then clicking a couple of options in the printers page, where I can get to a page with "Printer Options" available on it.

One of those options is for remove printer under the printer I want to keep.  The printer options for the printer I want to remove sends me to a page to add a printer.

So I'm kind of stuck here.

@jonVN,

Thank you for your response, now let's try a different approach. I request you to follow the below steps or use this link to play a detailed video that shows you how to remove a printer from your HP Account.

Steps to remove a printer from your HP account:

  • Sign in to HP Smart.
  • Select your printer, if it is not already selected.
  • Click Remove Printer.

Clicking Remove Printer

  • Confirm you want to remove the printer.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

And it's the same problem.

I log into HPSmart.com

Printers don't appear, so I click Printers on the left hand menu.

Two printers appear.   The one I want to remove is not connected.

I do not get "change settings".  I get "Printer options".

For the printer that is connected, I get the remove printer option.   This is the printer I want to keep.

For the printer I want to remove, when I select "Printer Options"  HPSmart goes to a page which wants me to "Add printer"

I can't even add the printer I want to remove because I need a "claim code".

I think there is a bug in the program where if you have a disconnected printer, printer options does not work right.
