HP Deskjet 1000 J110
Microsoft Windows 7 (32-bit)

Hello,

Iam using HP Deskjet 1000 J110 a series printer on my windows 7 OS.  I have been using this since past 3 years. I have bought one tri ink catridge and one black ink catridge for this printer. I rarely take colour printouts, mostly go for black and white text prints only.  So my black catridges runs out first, where as ,in this mean time my colour catridge is drying up, and it says" the printer only works properly  when it is loaded with two catridges with fully loaded ink , and it doesnt work when any of the catridges would dried up .

So untill now i have bought 3 colour catridges which were in dried state currently . Now i have few questions

1. Can  i load two black ink catridges, instead of one colour and one black ink catridge, since i am not using colour much and ending up it drying and buying a new one (- it's making a big hole in my pocket every time )

2. Is there any way to dissolve the dried ink in colour catridges , to recycle it

3. Can i operate this printer with single ink catridge - Black only  ( i dont want to buy the colour one )

If i couldn't find any solution for my issue, i simply gonna dispose this printer and ban HP products forever , will never use them in my life and never let my friends and family to do so.

Thanks for creating this wounderful product.

The Deskjet 1000 j110a printer will not allow using two black cartridges.  For printing (but not copying) you can remove the color cartridge completely as described in page 25 of the manual here.

I would think you could also run the printer with the color ink empty, although you would need to select "Print in Grayscale" and "Black Ink Only" in the driver.

One area that may be an issue - when a new black cartridge is installed the printer will print an alignment page.  This will need black and color to print properly to complete the alignment.  You may be able to keep a previous alignment page and reuse it.  Alternately you may be able to coax a bit more life out of the color cartridge by getting a teacup and put about 1" of hot water in it.  Remove the color cartridge from the printer and put it nozzles down in the teacup.  Let it soak for about ten minutes, then remove and gently dry the electrical contacts with a lint-free wipe.  A clean dry coffee filter works well for this.

From page 25 of the user manual:

Use single-cartridge mode

Use the single-cartridge mode to operate the HP Printer with only one print cartridge. The single-cartridge mode is initiated when a print cartridge is removed from the print cartridge carriage. During single-cartridge mode, the product can only print jobs from the computer.
