Had to sign up to say thanks, Bob_Headrick.
- Downloaded the 882 driver to my new Windows 7 machine
- Setup my 880c (shared on the wireless network) using your Local Port instructions
- One correction: The last step is choosing the 882 (not the 880, which isn't in the list of drivers -- which is why I showed up 🙂
Works great! Thanks!

Thanks for the kind words and for finding that error. I edited the original post to correct to the Deskjet 882c.

I have the same problem ....old but still working Deskjet 880C. I just bought a new HP laptop...Windows 7.
The old 880C driver (from disk) won't load...because it's not 64-bit compatible
I loaded the 882C driver but it doesn't work. Help!

How exactly did you install the Deskjet 882 driver? Did you use "Add a Printer"? What port did you select? Is the Deskjet 880 connected with a USB cable to the WIndows 7 machine? What happens when you try to print? Do jobs stay in the queue? Are there any error messages?

Bob,
I used "Add a Printer" to install the 882C driver. Selected LPT1. Printer connected by USB cable. When I click print, nothing happens...printer does not respond. Print Queue shows the document still there --under status is says "Error Printing". No other messages.

I just added a Windows server 2008 64-bit and hope can still use this printer which is on a Windows server 2003 via network printing.
When I added a printer, browsing to the network printer and found it, connect to it. Next step, it asked for the driver, not the format to select manufactuer and printer, but a textbox with brose button. I tried to point to Windows inf folder but found no match driver.
I went to Microsoft site and download 882C driver (no 880C driver). Then point the browse to that folder. It said, Printer driver setup error. Operation could not be completed (error 0x800f0214).
Can you help? Thanks.
