I've seen this posted many times but HP doesn't seem to reply with a fix. Tried calling & emailing to no avail. Tried a web search as well. Wondering if this is HP's way of getting you to buy a new printer.
I turn on the printer and it appears to be working then flashes a white screen then shows the C2FE0100 error code. Of course you can't see the code because it flashes so quickly that you have to go through the process several times just to write down the code.
Also, If this is an error code on an HP product why can't it be found on the HP website? Very frustrating!

OK, here are a couple of more ideas:
1. Hard reset - turn the printer off, hold the # and 6 keys while and a bit after turning it back on.
2. Remove the ink cartridges, then the printhead (via the gray lever on the right of the carriage). Reassemble and retest.

Ooops, my mistake, I was thinking C309a. Have you contacted HP Support?
Have you tried these?: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01369982

I had the same error message on a HP Officejet 6500A after my daughter cleared a paper jam. I found that she accidentally disconnected the two ribbon cables that attached to the printer head. I used youtube in order to figure out how to get to the heads and reconnected the ribbon cables and all is good in the universe!
Thanks,
Erik
