I am in Kenya and  I just  purchased an HP Deskjet 1050 printer. I attempted to connect it to my Mac OS X version 10.6.8 and in am getting a system prompt stating software not available. I tried to find appropriate software on the HP site with no success. Can you please help?

Hello Shlomi,

You are wonderful. It all worked and I am in the middle of rural Kenya using solar power and a wing and a prayer as to how I accomplish anything here. I am working on a Youth Project that is so amazing. www.thebridgeinitiative.com. If it were not fo ryou these kids would not great stuff printer for them.

Thank you so much! How can I reach you in the future? Will you please send me a direct link to find you easily as any time spent on computer searching is very expensive here. We have only a tiny thumb drive modem that connects us to the internet and we mucs purchase time on it in order to use the internet. It is a miracle that we can get internet here at all.

Again bless you for you quick and wonderful response. You made my day.

Hi,

Make sure the printer is directly connected to a free USB port on your Mac.

Download and install the following installation, it should detect your printer:

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software11/COL32624/al-80796-3/DJ_AIO_08_1050_J410_NonNet_Full_Mac_WW_...

If the printer cannot detect your printer during the isntallation, click the Apple icon, click About This Mac and then click the System Profiler button.

Click USB from the left pane - let me know if your printer is listed there or not.

Please elt me know of any change,

Shlomi

Hi, sorry if this is the wrong place for this, but I am having the same issue as the OP. I have had this printer for 2 months and it was working fine until a few days ago, when it just kept saying that the printer was offline. I tried troubleshooting (unplugged everything, restarted computer, etc) and then I finally just decided to delete the printer and reinstall it. Well now I can't even reinstall because my printer is not showing up on the computer. I know it's not the USB port (as I have plugged other devices into it and they work fine). I'm not quite sure what to do. Any help would be appreciated!

Hello,

Thanks for the post.  With this one, printer offline, I might suggest following these steps first.  Good Luck!

Thanks but I have already followed all of these instructions so this isn't super helpful. My printer still won't work.

Hello again,

OK, thank you, wanted to make sure prior to going to the next step.  Have you tried resetting the print system on your MAC?  The steps/link are provided below.  WARNING - This will remove all printers, so if you have another printer on your MAC, make sure you have the install disks or it's available to download.  After you have completed this, re-install the DJ1050.

Resetting the printing system in Mac OS X v10.5.x or 10.6.x

To use the Reset Printing System function in Mac OS X v10.5.x or 10.6.x, follow these steps:

  1. Choose System Preferences from the Applemenu.
  2. Choose Print & Fax from the Viewmenu.
  3. Hold down the Option key while clicking the "-" (Remove printer) button. If no printers are currently added, hold down the Control key while clicking in the box that appears above the "+" (Add printer) button, then choose Reset printing system… from the contextual menu.
