Oh, if you had a 6500, did you fully uninstall the HP software before installing the 6500A software? Do this:
Go to Applications/Hewlett Packard/ click on HP Uninstaller
Click on Continue
Highlight your device on the left pane
Press and hold Control + Alt + Cmd keys on the keyboard simultaneously while you click on Uninstall <<<< This IS the Scrubber Option, there is no button labeled "Scrubber"
There will be a pop up that asks if you are sure you want to uninstall ALL hp software. (At this point, if you continue, any HP printers you have installed will need to be reinstalled)
Click Continue and let it finish
Restart your Mac
Download and install this: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL907
Finally, Get the latest software for your printer from the "Support & Drivers" link at the top of this page.

Sometimes setting a static IP address for the printer can help:
- Print a Network Config Page from the front of the printer. Note the printer's IP address.
- Type that IP address into a browser to reveal the printer's internal settings.
- Choose the Networking tab, then Wireless along the left side, then the IPv4 tab.
- On this screen you want to set a Manual IP. You need to set an IP address outside the range that the router automatically sets (called the DHCP range). If you do not know the range, change the last set of numbers (those after the last '.') to 250
- Use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet (unless you know it is different, if so, use that)
- Enter your router's IP (on the Network Config Page) for the gateway.
- Enter 8.8.8.8 for the first DNS and 8.8.4.4 for the second DNS.
- Click 'Apply'.
Now, shut down the router and printer, start the router, wait, then start the printer.
After this you may need to redo 'Add a Printer' using the new IP address.

Have you repaired disk permissions on your Mac lately?

Both have been done. At the moment, the printer is working, as is the scanner function. However, because I went through the process of uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers yesterday, I cannot be sure the problem is fixed. I will know in a few days to a week.
Thanks for trying to help.

We had problems with our HP 6500 from the start. Always rebooting the printer and the computers to print one page. Recently we switched to a wirelss connection. It worked beautifully for 2 months. Then suddenly it won't print. It says 'can't find printer connection' . We have installed the HP 6500 disc again. Unplugged the modum, the computer and the printer. Still cannot get the printer to work.
Help!!!!

If you have the model of 6500 that includes wireless, then from the front of the printer: Setup > Network > Wireless Setup Wizard.
You will then add the printer to your computer. Tell me what operating system and I can help.
