I have the HP Photosmart C4680 on Windows XP.

It has recently started to randomly copy or scan by itself. It acts as though someone is standing there pressing the buttons.

I uninstalled all HP software and then re-installed the software and drivers and all updates. It is still happening.

It is incredibly frustrating because I have to have the printer turned off or deal with the scanning and random copies and noise, and when I want to actually print something I have to stand next to it and keep hitting the back arrow when it interrupts my prints.

Any help?

Hard Reset – While printer is powered ON, pull

the power cord from the printer then from the

wall. After 30 seconds reconnect power to wall

and printer. This will trigger a ‘dirty power up’

and restore the printer to a known good

condition (if it is possible). No user settings are

lost with a ‘hard reset’.
This ‘Hard Reset’ is one of the most powerful

tools to use when the printer hardware is not

functioning properly!

I had high hopes but unfortunately this did not fix the problem. I tried a few times without any luck.

I've tried that as well with no luck. I'm pretty frustrated with this machine.

Then, it has a hardware failure...if in warranty , contact HP for possible replacement.

I'm in the US, Pennsylvania to be exact. I don't know if there is a program like that here but I will definitely look into it!
