HP1102w
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have seen that my HP1102p wireless laser printer has an important security update. I have used this printer without problems with Apple computers for the past years, but now I have a Windows 10 Pro Dell notebook.

First, this notebook did not detect the printer on the WiFi network. So I plugged the printer via USB to the Windows computer. I tried several sequences of operations:

- printer on, then plugged

- printer off, plugged, then printer on

In both cases, Windows detected the printer and opened HP smart on my PC.

HP smart, however, did not detect the printer, even when I specifically selected "look for a USB printer". This is kind of weird. However, I went on and tried to update the HP software tool.

Second, I uninstalled HP smart and downloaded the latest driver for Windows 10 as of today April 27, 2021, The filename is hp_LJP1100_P1560_P1600_Full_Solution-v20180815-50157037.exe .

When I run this file, I get the error message: "can not delete output file". I tired to run the installer as Administrator, but I got the same error message. Looking around on this community, I found some "solutions", like using printui.exe /s, the removing drivers, etc. Nothing worked.

Third, what am I supposed to do for using the HP1102w printer with my Windows 10 Pro laptop? But, maybe, the correct question is: is this printer supported on Windows 10 Pro?

SOLUTION

- Install 7-zip (it's free)

- Download hp_LJP1100_P1560_P1600_Full_Solution-v20180815-50157037.exe

- Instead of double-clicking on the exe above, right-click on it and select "7-zip" -> "Extract to ' ... ' "

- Open the folder when you extracted the files to

- Double click on hpsetup.exe

- Follow instructions

I usually avoid giving suggestions, but I really think HP should solve this error (internet is full of people crying out for help): it is enough to change the file extension from exe to zip.
