I have found the same issue with the printer disconnecting from the network.  I have applied all of the patches and set up a static address but the same problem occurs.  THe only solution has been to turn off the printer and turn it on again.  Not what I expected when I bought the printer.

I got the message "computer is not connected to the network" and found out the printer is set up on only ONE of the two networks in my house.  So, if the computer is connected to the internet on Alpha, and the printer has been set up for Beta, if I try to print, wirelessly, I get the message above.  If I switch my computer to the Beta network, it works fine.

Also, on the Mac, each printer has it's own profile, which includes the way it's connected to the computer, by USB or by bonjour or whatever.  If you go to System Preferences->Print & Scan and double click on the printer, and then click on "SetUp" it should show you the profile.  So, you may need to SetUp a second profile.  I use USB or Bonjour in the name I assign so that I know which is which.

Hope this is not a repeat question, but I've searched and searched this board for this issue to no avail.

I have a HP Photosmart Plus B209a-m (70.91.312.0) that is installed on a XP desktop via USB and works great. However now I'd like to be able to use the printer wirelessly so I can use the printer directly from a laptop. Here are the steps I have followed to "add the device" wirelessly and the problem I encounter.

1. I insert the install CD that came with the printer and click the "Add a Device" button

2. I click the "Do not display the Setup Guide, printer has already been setup" box and click Next

3. I choose the "Wireless network connection (802.11)" option and click Next

4. It begins "Checking Network Configuration..."

5. It asks if my printer is already connected to my wireless network - I click "No (not sure)..." and click Next

6. It then asks me to "Temporarily connect my printer to the computer using a USB cable"

7. I click the box indicating my printer is already connected (remember my printer has been working just fine with my desktop via USB), then click Next

8. It says, Select the printer you are installing - "HP Photosmart Plus B209a-m" is listed in the box, so I click it and then click Next

9. This is where I get stuck! An error box appears saying "Selected printer is not present. Please connect the printer and press Retry or press Cancel to try another."

If I click Retry - the same box appears. If I click Cancel it takes me back to step #6 only to lead me down the same path to step #9.

I have tried to disconnecting the USB cord and reinserting it at step #6 but nothing happens (the computer beeps like I have removed a device but the screens do not change). If I try to "Reconfigure Network Device" instead of "Add a Device" it takes me right to Step #6 and the same result.

I have tried to uninstall the software and reinstalled it again - the USB works fine but same result above. I have unplugged the printer prior to install but no luck. Not sure what I should try next. Please help.

Thanks
