I have a hp wireless printer that will not recognize the network on my belkin router.  It worked before but won't now.

What printer?  What model Belkin?  What operating system on your computer?

Good evening PrintDoc(Dean),

Thank you for your reply,

I have the HP PhotoSmart Plus B209a-m

I have Windows XP operating system on my computer

I have a Belkin N1 Wireless Router Model F5D8231-4  Version 4011

When I printed out the HP Network Configuration Page  my Belkin network was discovered but when I go into the network on the HP printer it doesn't list any networks on the printer screen.

Hope this info helps and thank you very much,

Stew

So the printer shows being connected to the Belkin on the Network Test report, right?  It has a valid IP address (not 0.0.0.0 nor 169.254.X.X)?

If that is all good, download and run this utility: http://h20180.www2.hp.com/apps/Nav?h_pagetype=s-926&h_lang=en&h_client=s-h-e17-1&h_keyword=dg-NDU&ju...

What does it say?

Thank you PrintDoc (Dean) for the reply.

I will complete the instructions shortly but did notice that the IP address on the HP printer is differnt than that of my router network.

Also I noticed that when I printed out the network config page it stated that they were 802.11 networks and the Auth was WPA-PSK where as the HP printer shows WPS network.

hope this helps too,

Thank you again,

Stew

Oh, if your printer does not have the same IP structure as your router (differing ONLY by the digits after the last '.') then your printer is on a different network.

Perhaps you have a guest network or a neighbor's unsecured network that the printer has attached to?

Good evening PrintDoc (Dean).

If my printer has found another unsecured network how do I birng it back home to mine?  Should I still go through the steps that you posted earlier?

Thanks

Stew

OK, since your router and printer support WPS (Wifi Protected Setup), let's use that.  Start the process from the printer (Setup > Wilreless > WPS > Pushbutton mode or similar words).

Within two minutes after starting the process on the printer, push the WPS button on the router.  This will establish a link between the printer and the router.

After that, delete the printer (all instances of it) in Start > Control Panel > Printers.  Then:

1. Make sure the printer is turned on and connected to your network. Verify that you can access the printer's internal web page by browsing to its IP address before continuing.
2. Click >> Start >> Control panel >> Printers.
3. Click the Add a printer
4. Select Local printer
5. Select Create a new port and select Standard TCP/IP Port and click Next button.
6. Under Device type, select TCP/IP Device. Under Hostname or IP address, enter the printer's IP address. Click Next.
7. Select Hewlett-Packard from the list of manufacturers and select and select your printer model. Click Next.
If your printer model was not listed, then select Have Disk, browse the HP CD that came with your printer and select the first file that starts with hp and ends with inf. Click Open then OK. Select your printer model. Click Next.
8. If you are asked, use the currently installed driver.
9. It will ask for the Printer name -- enter a new name or use the existing one. This will be the name of the printer that you select from other applications.
10. You may be asked to share the printer. Choose NO.
11. The Print Test Page box appears. Go ahead and print it.
12. Click Finish.

Good afternoon PrintDoc (Dean)

I really appreciate all your help.

I did as you said in the first steps of the process.  I did not delete printer yet because I could not find access to the printer's internal web page by browing to its ip address.  I could not find the prompts to get to this step.

I printed the networks config page but the IP address did not appear.

Thank you again for trying to sort out this confusion.

The funny thing is that it had worked previously.  I don't understand what threw these devices out of sync.

The IP address may be listed as the "Printer URL" and be of the form "http://X.X.X.X" where the Xs are numbers.
