Hello!!

I've tried everything said in  the previuos posts and I cannot solve the problem:

1. Installed 7-zip

2. Disable antivirus

3. Installed file in c.\ and my user directories

But when doing the extract process I got the same error:  Cannot Open Output File related to autorun.inf file

.... Don't know what else to do ....

Trying to install officejet j5780 driver on a Windows 7 professional 32 bits

Any help will be very appreciated!!!!

I have found a solution to this as I have had the same error on my corporate laptop, but I wanted to use my home printer, a Photosmart D5160 using a bluetooth dongle connected to the front USB port (this works brilliantly btw!)

What you need to do is follow the previous instructions to extract the file to your C: drive using 7-zip but do not double-click the setup file.

Instead, go to Control Panel and add your printer using the wizard. After Windows has found the physical device but you see that your printer is not in the list, click on "Have Disk" and browse to select the folder of the extracted files. Don't select a file, just the full folder. You will then be able to choose your printer from the driver list that appears.

Hello, I'm trying to install new drivers for my HP Photosmart C4385 Printer.  I downloaded the full feature drivers for Windows XP 32-bit, and when I start to install (extract), I get the error message:

Extraction Failed

Cannot Open Output File

And the process closes.  It happens at about 85% extraction every time.

Any idea why?  I called HP but since it is out of warranty they wanted money, which I think as absolutely ridiculous - won't even give me basic support??  Poor, poor customer service.

OK, I'm replying to a post from years ago, but I've got the same problem when trying to install just the BASIC drivers to operate our HP Officejet 4500 G510g-m.  My PC is a Toshiba laptop with AMD 1.7 Ghz, 32-bit, OS-Win7.

I too, had the same error "can not open output file" so I began following your suggestions...

1. Turn off all anti-virus / anti-malware programs.

2. Download and install 7-zip.

3. I put the printer installation folder in the C drive and right-clicked and chose "extract files..."

4. I found the new extraction folder, opened it and found "setup.exe" which I double clicked and waited... sadly nothing happened.

Any other suggestions?
