The printer works using wifi, however I need to be able to print where no wifi is available.  I connected a usb cord from my computer to the printer but it doesn't print unless connected to wfi.

When printing via USB instead of Wi-Fi, make sure the printer's wireless radio is turned off. If wireless is still turned on even if Internet access is unavailable, you will not be able to print over a USB connection. 🙂

Hi @RQ2

For a USB Connection to work B/W Printer & PC you will need to install the Drivers for it & it has to be configured

The link below will help you install it

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/COL61220/mp-147799-1/EN4520_Full_WebPack_1122.exe

follow the setup info on screen when you install it

Hope this helps.

A couple of thoughts.

There needs to be a separate printer destination (assuming Microsoft Windows) for USB.  Windows does not automatically switch it.  It should prompt you to install the printer when you plug the usb cable in the first time.   If you do not get a prompt, try adding the printer manually (through the control panel).

It could be a usb cable problem.
