My setup is already like that - The wireless router on channel 11, and the access point on channel 6.

Thanks.

As the OP I can report that mine works fine now but I don't know why! I spent weeks exchanging emails with HP. HP sent me 2 replacement printers both worked perfectly on the network but both were faulty on arrival with serious scanner and/or printing problems. I decided the network problem was the least inconvenient issue as it only occurred when I switched the printer on so I kept my original one. However when I reconnected it after sending the faulty ones back the network problem had "gone away"! I realised that the error message the printer was displaying on its report was actually only a *warning* about multiple APs with same SSID (and it still does) but what the *error* message was apparently referring to was an "address filtering" problem (as far as I can recall). I realise this is not much help, sorry. I confirm I run all my APs with the same SSID but on different channel numbers and only one has DHCP server active.

Further to my previous message. I am about to change my network configuration adding 11n APs and a wireless HP 6500A Plus (I need the duplexer and after Amazon discounts & HP cashback I couldn't resist it at £39.99!). So later this week I might be back on here seeking solutions again but I hope not!

My AP's had same SSID and configured on different channels - 1,6, 11. But the problem with HP printer continues.

Regarding sijomi's point above, I also have read somewhere that "More than one access pont..." is only a warning.  The failure I get is "No filtering - FAIL".  This error message isn't user friendly, is it?

In any cases, I tried turning off the AP, leaving the router on (thus providing an environment where there's only one access point) when powering on the printer.  And the printer's network test passes just fine.  This re-confirms the failure has  to do with multiple AP's with the same SSID. One shouldn't have to upstairs to turn off AP every time the printer needs to be turned on.

Apparently, "No Filtering" means if Mac Address Filtering is disabled.

In my case, it is disabled on both of the wireless stations, yet the printer cannot connect if there are two under the same SSID.

This should not be a problem.  I have a B110 (and another 10 or so HP wireless printers) on an Airport network with 5 APs and they just hook up.

Here are some suggestions:

1. Do not use WEP - use WPA or WPA2 with a strong 13+ charactere password.

2. Enable SSID broadcast on all APs

3. Do no use MAC acddress filtering

4. Make sure 'AP isolation' or 'wireless isolation' is disabled.

5. Make sure you are not on a VPN nor logged onto your guest network.

6. If different channels on the APs do not work, try the same channel.

Yes, putting both of the WAP's on the same channel made it work!

Thanks.

Thanks for the hint and confirmation

However WAPs on the same channel is a potential fix, but one reason to work with multiple channels (expand and running 2,4 and 5 GHz network) is to have seperate streamning af example HD content. You are limited if you have to configure both frequencies on same channel.

Having expanded my network with an additional AP and also using an Airport express, I am facing the similar issues as stated in this post and have tried everything suggested. It must an issue with the printer not being able to attach to network when using same SSID for several APs. Tried fixed IP etc. Printer seems not to be defect, as I can attach to my network in approx. one out 10 tries, but it gets de-connected when the printer awakes from sleep mode. I can connect when the other APs are turned off, but gets de-conneted again when printer recovery from sleep mode

All other devices (smart phones, NAS, iPads, laptops, Television, HDD etc.) have no issues connecting. And I really miss the Ethernet LAN port in this case.

My network devices are:

Router Neatgear W3700 is the DCHP server only

AP Netgear W3300 using same channels (Bridge)

Apple Airport Express (Brigde)

Printer is places less than one meter away from Router.

HP, when can I expect a FW update that takes care of this - at least bypassing the printers concern about connecting to my neighbours network

Thanks in advance

Although I have tried using the same channel as suggested above and was successful, as LKH1122 stated, this is only a workaround but not a solution.  I have since moved on to use USB connection instead just because of this problem and I wasn't going to settle with two AP's on the same channel.  When all other 802.11[bg] devices work just fine with multi-channel configuration, why shouldn't the HP printer not work in that setting? HP should fix their firmware.
