Hi @TakingtooLong12 ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing a "Print head missing or not detected" error on your HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus E-All-In-One Printer, it typically indicates an issue with the print head or its connection.

Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the problem:

  • Verify Print Head Installation: Ensure that the print head is correctly installed in the printer. Open the printer cover and check if the print head is properly seated in its carriage.
  • Clean Contacts: Sometimes, the issue can be due to dirty or misaligned contacts. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source. Carefully clean the electrical contacts on both the print head and inside the carriage with a lint-free cloth dampened with distilled water. Make sure they are dry before reinstalling.
  • Restart Printer: Turn off the printer, wait for a few minutes, and then turn it back on. Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve connectivity issues.
  • Check for Obstructions: Inspect the print head carriage and the area around it for any obstructions that may be preventing proper detection or movement. Clear any debris or paper jams.
  • Update Firmware: Ensure that your printer's firmware is up to date. You can usually check for firmware updates through the printer's control panel or by visiting the HP support website. Update the firmware on an HP printer
  • Reinstall Print Head: If cleaning the contacts and verifying the installation doesn't resolve the issue, try removing the print head and reinstalling it. Follow the HP instructions for proper removal and reinstallation.
