Hello.

This is weird AF.

All of a sudden, I can no longer print from my printer.

I was printing fine one moment, the next document was stuck in the printer job queue (local to the printer).

I can print the several status reports directly from the printer menu without problem.

I cannot print from any computer (Windows or Mac).

The job on the computer is shown as printed/sent to the printer.

The printer receives the job, makes a sort of double click sound, then the job spins endlessly, even for hours.

Reboot of the printer or restart/flush of files on the print queue on the computer does not solve it.

The printer is connected to WIFI.

Bonus info/unrelated? At the same time the print stopped working, the printer seems unable to recognize the USB sticks.

I am at a loss for next steps...

Thanks for your help.

The issue was low ink. Once I replaced the cartridges with full ones it started printing.

It's weird that the manual reports print fine in colors (alas indicating a low ink level), while a PC-sent print gets stuck endlessly, without warning of low ink...

Try / Consider

Printer Turns Off Unexpectedly or Repeatedly

Step 2 - Restart the printer

IF you have not done so,

Consider updating the printer Firmware

Thanks for the suggestion.

Unfortunately the printer is up to date to latest firmware.

I also tried a factory reset, no change.

Unfortunate.

If the issue is present on one computer, uninstalling / reloading the printer software might help.

If the issue is present on all devices, the source of the issue might be on the printer itself.

The printer might need a "bigger" hammer.

I will forward this to the moderators - an agent might be able to provide a more thorough "reset" solution.

Yes, it happens from any computer. It definitely looks like a printer problem.

OK - good news - fixed.

I did not see this type of behavior on a similar model (OfficeJet Pro 8740) so I cannot compare.  ?

That said, I do generally keep track of the various settings and alerts as they are available.

Settings / Features vary by model, of course.

As I recall, both of the following are available on the 8740 (no longer have the printer)...

Perhaps you can find one or both of EWS settings on your 8720.

If so, check / adjust the settings.

Enable Low Ink Warning / Adjust the Printer Supply Settings

Open your favorite browser > type / enter Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Tab Settings > Supplies > Supply Settings

Be Aware - Supply Settings...

Do not switch on Cartridge protection without understanding what it is.

Cartridge Protection is NOT a setting that allows third-party ink to be used in the printer.

AND

Open your favorite browser > type / enter Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Tab Settings > Email Alerts > Alert Settings

This is happening with mine as well, and it's just printing continuously with random letters and jarble. I replaced the ink cartridges but it's still doing it. 😞
