Great help getting the two-sided printing to work!  Thanks.

New problem:  C410a on Windows 7

The pages printed in the wrong order.  Page 3 was on the back of page 1 and then 4 was on the back of 2.  That is pages 1,3 came out first, front to back and then 2, 4 front to back.  I am using WORD 2007 in case you need that info, too.

Here's my original question submitted to the MS Word forum and the answers I received. I didn't see anything in this HP forum that related to my questions.

Using Word 2010 on Windows 7 and an HP Officejet Pro L7590,
an initial multipage document or two will print two-sided (all other
settings standard), then only the last page prints single-sided. I
must restart my computer to restore duplex operation and it doesn’t
last. Any suggestions?

Updating or even reinstalling the printer driver might help. Or are you
saying that the issue occurs only when printing Word documents?

Stefan Blom

Yes, Stefan, only with Word. Printer works fine with Acrobat Pro. All
HP printer driver updates have been installed.

The problem is that HP printers and Word/Office often don’t play well
together. You may actually have to downgrade your printer driver to find one
that works with Word. 😞

“Downgrading” means, for example, using a printer driver supplied with
Windows. Of course, that is likely to limit the functionality of your
printer.

What is your operating system?   If your computer is on a company (or school) network you may need to contact your local computer administrator to perform the task for you.

You can check your priviledges as follows (in Windows 7) go to Start, Control Panel, User Accounts.   The screen that comes up will show your user icon and with that will be an indication under the user name of "Standard User" or "Administrator".  If your account is a standard user and you do not know the administrator credentials to log in you will need to contact whoever set up your computer or your administrator.

Thanks for trying to help, Bob.  It seems that as the only user, I am also the administrator. How do I exercise my administrative powers? Could not find ' Features' or 'Paper Saving Options' in Printing Preferences window as described in the HP document linked to you reply.

My full story is as follows-- I previously used the Photosmart 2610 All in One on a Dell computer with Windows XP and printed two sided manually. The process was File>Print>Properties>Printing Shortcuts-set Custom Print settings>Finishing- check 'Print on both sides' box and uncheck 'Automatic'. After printing one side dialog box appears with instructions to remove printed pages, turn them around, re-insert in in tray and click 'Continue'.

My old computer will still do this.

Now have new computer with Windows7 and the same HP 2610 All in One. When I conected computer to printer, dialog boxes looked different and I downloaded Driver updates from HP web site.

Do I need Duplexer for manual two sided printing?

Will the printer driver from my old xp machine work on my new W7 machine? Can I transfer the printer driver which I was quite happy with from my old computer to my new one? How?

Any further help you could offer would be most appreciated. I am a bit of an old duffer and not very adept with an thing outside my past experience with computers.

Cheers,

This thread was written with automatic duplexing in mind. For manual duplexing you do not need the duplexer, you can have just the flat back panel.  (On the other hand I thnk the automatic duplexer is about the best thing since sliced bread, you might consider picking one up on eBay or similar.  It is soooo convenient to print both sides automatically.)

That said, for some printers the Windows 7 drivers do not work well or at all for manual duplexing.  I happen to have a Photosmart 2610 and just did some testing and manual duplexing worked with both Word and Notepad with the 2610 under Windows 7.  I set it up as follows: first go to Start, Devices and Printers, right click on the Photosmart 2600 and select Printer Properties, Device Settings and select Not Installed for the Duplex Unit and Enabled for Allow Manual Duplexing.

Thanks,Bob, that does work for Word documents. However, I print mostly from PDFs, Web pages and e-mails and it doesn't work for them the way my old computer does with the old driver. Can I get my old driver onto my new computer? That looks like the only way as the cost of a duplexer seems to be a lot more than the printer cost if one can be found at all for a 2600 series. Cheers,

Have you checked to see if your PDF software is up-to-date? If not, this could be a source of the problem.

I connectyed the Office pro K8600 with duplexunit.

The software is version 13.0.0 for Windows 7.

My OS is Windows 7.

My problem:

If a report of 44 pages (in the report are portrait and landscape pages) is printed the landscape pages are incorrect for the even pages (not even are correct).

The fault is that it likes 3 colomns. The first colmn and third colomn hes exchanged.

When I afterwards the two pages print, doublesided too, then both pages are correct, the even page too.

That's not the meaning of printing reports.

Can you help me out?

Thanks,

I do not have any solution for documents with a mixture of portriat and landscape pages other than printing only the subset with the same orientation.
