Hi, I have recently replaced my previous HP with the Deskjet 2540. I'm having printing issues with everything that previously printed fine. Mainly the bottom margin. It only part prints at the bottom and with my documents that have a page border - the border is completely missing at the bottom.  I have looked at preferences on the printer settings but there is no option to amend the bottom border size. Can you help please as I have a lot of border documents ?

Hi jafine,

Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!

I understand the border is missing at the bottom.

I will be happy to help you.

Check your printer and application settings to make sure they match properly.

From the application go to file, page setup to check your settings.

To check the printer settings follow the steps below:

On the File menu in your software application, click print.
Select preferences.
Change the paper orientation on the Layout tab.

Change the paper source, media type, paper size, and quality settings on the
Paper/Quality tab.

If you require further help please provide the following information.

What application are you printing from?

What Windows operating system are you using?

How to Find the Windows Edition and Version on Your Computer.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for posting on the HP Forums.

Have a nice day!

I'm having the same issue with the 1512! What I have done in the past is select "legal" size in the print window and it fooled the printer into printing lower, but not for this printer. You might try that with yours and see if it helps.

I am using Windows 7 Home Premium. I am trying to print from Word 2010. All my print preferences in Word have not changed since my previous printer. In the preferences for this printer (Advanced settings), there are very few options. Only to select the paper source, paper type and orientation which agree to my settings in Word. There are no options in the Preferences that I can find that relate to margin sizies.

Thanks for the tip re legal size - it doesn't work but may be useful for future problems with other printers!

Look forward to any other advice to resolve this.

Hi jafine,

Sorry that didn't help.

The margin settings would have to be set from the application you are printing from.

If you go to file, page setup, you should a option for the paper size and margin settings also.

I don't have availability to the Word software to check all the settings.

The only settings through the printer driver would be the paper size and paper type that would affect any printing.

Please provide the following information so I can assist you better.

What size of paper are you using?

What are your settings in the application you are printing from? (your welcome to include screen shots)

What are the settings set to in the print driver?

My print margins in Word are .25" all around and my previous printer did fine with that. However, someone gave me a Canon Pixma MP250, which prints borderless, so I'm returning the Deskjet.

Hi everyone...

Here's a link to the Deskjet 2540 Printer Margins...

Or, if you can't move your finger to click the link:

Bottom margin (A4)

:Surprise: NOTE: be aware of the differences in margin sizes between printing via PC (software) and Mobile Device (AirPrint/UPD)

  • 14.5 mm (via Software)
    12.7 mm (AirPrint/UPD)

Left margin (A4)

  • 3.2 mm

Right margin (A4)

  • 3.2 mm

Top margin (A4)

  • 1.5 mm

I sincerely hope this helps everyone...!

Hi there

I have just bought this printer for work and am having similar problems to other users - I regularly print information labels (10 per sheet) and the bottom 2 labels' last line is missing. I have checked both the Word (for Mac) and printer setups and both are set to A4. I use Airprint but still lose the bottom line, even though the margin is smaller than using the software. Is there any way this can be amended? If not I may have to take it back as it just doesn't work for my business as it stands.

Regards

Hi @Jo_L

I see by your post that the bottom line is getting cut off when printing labels. I can help you.

Are you are using the Mac computer's Airprint drivers to print with?

I would download and install the HP Full Feature software for the printer.

HP Deskjet 2540 All-in-One Printer Drivers.

Are you having this issue printing from other applications?

What operating system are you using? Mac OS X: How Do I Find Which Mac OS X Version Is on My Computer?

Have a nice day!
Thank You.

Hi,

I'm having the same problems.  Regardless of the margins I set for my documents, either in Word or in Publisher (or any other program, as far as I can see), the printer does not print right to the edge (i.e. borderless) as every other printer I have had has done.

This means I can't use it for most of my documents unless there is a way to set the printer to print borderless.

Is this model able to print without borders, please, and if so how, or should I return it as unsuitable for my needs?

Many thanks for any help you can give.

I am on Windows 8.1, using Office 2013 / Office 365, full drivers and software from HP's website, and every program I have is kept fully updated.
