You will find that the problem is that the "Windows Image Acquisition" (WIA) service is stopped.
You will need to start this service but you will face an error. So, after investigation, i found
that you will have to make sure that all the services stated below should be started and set to
automatic. This fixed my problem.

Services:
--------------
Application Layer Gateway Service
Network Connections
Network Location Awareness (NLA)
Network List Service
Network Store Interface Service
Plug and Play
Remote Access Auto Connection Manager
Remote Access Connection Manager

How do you start the services?
HP Recommended

1. Start > Run > services.msc

2. Find the service on the right panel

3. Right click a service and hit "Properties"

4. Set "Startup type" to "Automatic" and hit the "Start" button to start it immediately.

Have fun  🙂

@fidodido  Well, because it fxed your problems four times in a row :smileywink:, I'll give it a try.  But I very seriously doubt it'll fix our problems.

My scanner is in "happy mode" right now.......activate to scan worked the first thing this morning, so, I can't try your 'fix' until Mr. Scanner is unhappy again........I will be interested to see what others find.

4 my computer the windows image acquisition service was already on automatic. I had to set several of the others to automatic. This made no difference, still failing.

Didn't solve anything for me either.

STILL NOT FIXED
