We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

I have Adobe Acrobat Professional purchased for the sole purpose of being aboe to scan documents into PDF format since the prior version I had would not allow that capability with Windows Vista.  However, without the HP Solution Center Software working properly, the scan into PDF format is no longer an option given either through Paint or through the shortcut listed previously by me in this thread.  So I advise you not to buy the upgraded version of Adobe Acrobat becasue without HP Solution Center software working as it is advertised by HP as compatible with Windows Vista when it is not, the scan in to PDF format is not an option. 

 

There is a work around though if you have Adobe Acrobat Std or Pro older version by scanning into a picture format of some type then taking the Adobe Acrobat software and changing that picture back into a PDF documnet.  There is a considerable loss of functionality and quality doing this method but without HP supporting its products properly withinthe warranty periods, its the only work around until we all buy competing products and see HP go out of business.  If business history is any lesson, it is that companies that do not properly service its customer base, eventually go out of business.

Same problem but only with the C4599 All in one and only when I try to scan to the computer. I can scan to print but I am trying to be able to scan PDF files that I have downloaded, Signed, and then want to scan back into the computer to be able to email the attachment back to the sender. All this to avoid paying an extra $10 per month to my phone company and buying a fax machine. The fix Wayne came up with doesn't work on my computer since I can't find the "hpqscnvw" file. I get to the bin but no file that matches that name. Anyway, if anyone comes up with a fix please let me know. HP is no help I guess at least when it comes to Windows Vista. Thanks

Then search for a file named hpiscnapp.exe in teh same folder.

Problem - HP CUE Scanning Flow Component has stopped working.....

 

I checked out this solution and it does not work for me.  I did find the offending program under the name "hpqkygrp" in the "\Program Files\HP\Digital Imaging|bin\" directory.  I tried to have Vista run it in compatibility mode, but that didn't work either.

 

I can scan with the "hpiscnapp" application, but this is only for images, not pdf format (which is what I want).

 

It's all HP hardware, so what's the problem?

Good luck trying to solve the scanning problem. I have a  Officejet 6310/Vista OS and the scanning function stopped working two months ago. The HP tech dept in India, and I use the word tech dept laughingly, don't have a clue how to fix this problem. After spending hours on the phone with them (20 hrs) and the tech dept nearly destroying my computer I gave up and wrote letter to HP corporate. My printer is still under warranty and I demanded that they replace my printer with a newer model that actually works, so far, nothing. I don't think they understand the meaning of a warranty. Also, I would caution anybody out there to think twice, three times before doing anything in the registry. You're playing in very dangerous territory.

It took some searching but I found a fix (from the HP Support Document pages).  The HP Solution Center does not work for me, but I tried right clicking on "hppscan7" in the "\Program Files\HP\Digital Imaging\bin\" directory to run as administrator and it worked for me to scan so I could save the scan as a pdf file.  It doesn't make sense to me why this works, since I am a user with administrator rights and privileges whenever I sign in.  So I am going to make a shortcut on my desktop and change the setting to allow it to always run as administrator.  Here is the solution.

HP LaserJet CM1312 MFP Product Series - Error 4, [(3,17,0)] when scanning in Windows Vista
ISSUE:
When attempting to scan in Windows Vista from an application other than the HP Solution Center, an error message may appear similar to the one below. This message may also appear when attempting to send a PC fax with “Pages in document tray�? selected. The error message will have the error code 4,[(3,17,0)] in the dialogue box.

SOLUTION:
Initiate scan jobs from the HP Solution Center or run the scan application by right mouse clicking the scan application and selecting Run as Admininstrator .

PLS TRY THIS: CLICK START, SELECT WINDOWS PHOTO GALLERY, CLICK FILE, SELECT PRINTER/SCANNER AND CLICK IMPORT.  YOU CAN THEN SAVE TO YOUR FILE.

ERROR MESSAGE:

'HP CUE Scanning Flow Component has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.'

 

CAUSE:

HP software installation creates a bad registry entry:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Hewlett-Packard\DigitalImaging

    Key = ProfileWritePath    Value = %APPDATA%\HP\Digital Imaging\Data\Destination 

This value is in error; it indicates the HP CUE profile is written in the USERs application data path. The registry variable %APPDATA% typically resolves to

   C:\Documents and Settings\{username}\Application Data

Therefore, the installation software says the HP CUE profile can be found in:

   C:\Documents and Settings\{username}\Application Data\HP\Digital Imaging\Data\Destination

However, the actual path where the HP CUE profile is being written is:

  C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\HP\Digital Imaging\Data\Destination 

In other words, the HP CUE profile is not being written to the %APPDATA% path, but is instead being written to the %ALLUSERSPROFILE% path.

 

The HP software works as installed, until the user runs a Registry Cleaner program. Registry cleaner programs detect that the path specified by HP is an Invalid Path and removes the key:

 

(i think this only applies if the registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Hewlett-Packard\DigitalImaging doesnt have the Key ProfileWritePath)

Although it has been some time since your thread posted, I felt you might be interested in this fix. It definitely restores the HP  Solution Center Scanning Button to the original specs of the installation. It took me several days of research on the web until I came across this forum by DexterM and the solution did work for me.

 

 

1. Go to registry.
2. Go to HKEY_ Local_ Machine\Software\Hewlett-Packard\DigitalImaging\
3. Click on the Digital Imaging Folder and in the Right Hand Side Pane and check if the String Value "ProfileWritePath" is present and Value is set to %APPDATA%\HP\Digital Imaging\Data\Destination
4. If the Sting Value is not present right click and then click on new and then click on String Value Name it as "ProfileWritePath" and then right click on that and click on Modify and make sure that the value is set to "%APPDATA%\HP\Digital Imaging\Data\Destination" and close the registry editor.
5. Then go to My computer C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\HP\Digital Imaging\Data and check if the Destination folder is present. If not create a new folder and name it as "Destination".
6. If you are unable to locate the Application Data folder under All users, click on Tools and then click on Folder Option. In the Folder Options Window click on the View tab and under Hidden Files and Folders make sure that "Show Hidden Files and Folders" is checked and then click on Apply and then click on OK..
7. Then Make sure that the same that the HP\Digital Imaging\Data\Destination folder is present under all user profiles Application Data folder.

Then try to scan and you should be able to scan.

Note: Please do not try to uninstall or reinstall the software. The moment you get the above error message, try following the steps given above and that should resolve the issue.

I think you're right about the registry cleanup causing the problems, Violator.  I had installed some Win XP security upgrades AND had run Regcure before I noticed that Photosmart Premier was no longer working with my HP 3210xi.  Adding the ProfileWritePath to my registry per DexterM's msg fixed my problem.  I'm hoping my instructions to Regcure to ignore HP in the registry will be permanent!
