Positively brilliant!  I'm not a computer nut so I had to invest an hour to figure out all the places but it works and perfectly.  Thank you so much.  You saved the landfill getting yet another printer.

One of my co-workers told me that the steps mentioned below helped him resolve the issue many times. Though he did it on XP computers, he never tried those steps on Vista. So it may be worth a try. Take a backup of teh registry before attempting these steps.

Error: "HP Cue Scanning Flow component has encountered a problem and needs to be closes".
OS: Windows XP.

If you encounter this error message during the trouble shooting, please follow the steps below:

1. Go to registry.
2. Go to HKEY_ Local_ Machine\Software\Hewlett-Packard\DigitalImaging\
3. Click on the Digital Imaging Folder and in the Right Hand Side Pane and check if the String Value "ProfileWritePath" is present and Value is set to %APPDATA%\HP\Digital Imaging\Data\Destination
4. If the Sting Value is not present right click and then click on new and then click on String Value Name it as "ProfileWritePath" and then right click on that and click on Modify and make sure that the value is set to "%APPDATA%\HP\Digital Imaging\Data\Destination" and close the registry editor.
5. Then go to My computer C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\HP\Digital Imaging\Data and check if the Destination folder is present. If not create a new folder and name it as "Destination".
6. If you are unable to locate the Application Data folder under All users, click on Tools and then click on Folder Option. In the Folder Options Window click on the View tab and under Hidden Files and Folders make sure that "Show Hidden Files and Folders" is checked and then click on Apply and then click on OK..
7. Then Make sure that the same that the HP\Digital Imaging\Data\Destination folder is present under all user profiles Application Data folder.

Then try to scan and you should be able to scan.

Note: Please do not try to uninstall or reinstall the software. The moment you get the above error message, try following the steps given above and that should resolve the issue.

And in Vista, the address to use in Setp 5 would be C:\Users\\Roaming\AppData\HP\Digital Imaging\Data

try this, and let me know what happens.

I unfortunately tried what Dexter wrote when I had this problem with Windows Vista and it did not resolve the problem. Uninstalling and reinstalling and hours upon hours of supposed technical assistance from HP also did not resolve the problem. On the phone one HP rep did admit that HP software is not fully compatible with Vista and they were supposedly "working on it" to get it resolved. In any case NEVER got my HP OfficeJet Pro L7555 All-in-one to ever work as it originally did with my old computer running Windows XP. Recently;y however, I bought Windows 7 when its price dropped in the hopes that a lot of Vista issues would go away. After installing Windows 7 Ultimate I knew I would have to upgrade or reinstall the HP software to get Windows 7 compatible with my HP All-in-one. I did the Windows uninstall, then went through every users profiles and removed every last vestige of HP on the computer (files, folders, etc.) that were left behind from the uninstall. Then I went into the registry files and did a search for anything that had the letters HP together and if it looked like a Hewlett Packard entry, I deleted it from the registry. I then rebooted a few times and researched making sure it did not have some way of adding the files or folders back on the computer or if I missed any (which I did) and researched the registry again. Once I was fairly confident that I extinguished any vestige of HP on this computer, I went to the HP site and added the software for my HP device that was written for Windows 7 Ultimate. I downloaded and installed this software , it has a slightly different interface but not too different, and now the HP Solution Center works properly now as it previously did when I was running Windows XP. I think the HP software and files being removed diligently by me was what saved the day. Previous uninstalls by the HP Tech Support did not go to the level of detail to remove files which were most likely corrupted and continued to resort to the issue that gave the HP CUE Scanning Flow Component Error message. I think the software may have been written better for Windows 7 than it was for Vista, but don't know for sure. I do feel certain though that removal of every single item that HP puts on the computer was a key to get the hardware working properly again with HP Solution Center software. Now I can actually scan properly again. Unfortunately HP was absolutely no help at all and did not abide by their warranty and it took me money to shell out for a new operating system to get their hardware working with their own software again. So if any of you still have this error message, I would suggest you use your windows operating system to remove the HP software, then go through every user and search for any remaining HP files, folders, etc. left over after the uninstall and remove them (also after removal make sure you empty your recycle bin). Then the trickier part is going into the registry editor and searching for HP registry entries left behind. I am not certain registry cleaners could catch them all but you may want to try Comodo's Registry Cleaner which is free first, and then go in and check for HP entries. Even using the search method it took a long time to find and delete HP registry entries left behind. Once you think you deleted everything HP related on your machine. Reboot and check again. Then reboot again and download the newest software for your machine and operating system from the HP web site. Good luck!

True. The most probable cause for this issue is missing or incorrect registry entries. Usually, a Level 3 uninstallation should remove the most important registry entries, but incomplete installation, failed installations or firewall interceptions could cause problems. So a complete clean-up and reinstall will be necessary in worst-case scenarios. Hopefully the new version of HP printer software for newer HP products should avoid such issues in the future. They are based in a completely new, light-weight architecture which should make the whole internal scanning process less complicated, resulting in a better scanning experience for you.

I just encountered this problem on my new Dell computer, with Windows 7 and my HP Scanjet 4890 scanner.  I figured out the problem and fixed it, so I thought I would share the solution.  The problem was a new application Dell is installing on their computers, called Dell Stage.  I had initially downloaded new drivers for the scanner and it was working fine in Windows 7.  When I "registered" th Dell Stage application, it activated it and I believe it was interfering and controlling the scanner. Sometime after that, when I tried to scan something, I got the subject message, for the first time ever.   I found the Dell Stage application useless, deleted it and restarted the computer and the scanner works fine.

fsblendido - First did you read through the whole forum responses posted here and try and of the items listed to resolve the issue?

Second - You really need to provide a lot more information on the system and software you are using -

Operating system - Be SPECIFIC - e.g. Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit Sp 1  etc.

Computer type, model number, etc.- any and all details that are shown when you go to computer - system -

Any other pertinent information - somethign you changed recently, installed or unistalled something etc.

The more information you provide the more likely someone might be able to help resolve the issue.

In my case my HP L7555 All-in-one was workign fine with Windows XP Professional - I bought a new laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium and it worked fine for about a month or so then gave the error noted in the Forum feed.  I could NEVER get it to work properly again even after about 100 hours working with HP techs on line and installing/uninstalling software about 10+ times.  I did find a work around which was posted and Cara Gilds was using it as was I, (earlier in this post) but that only allowed a scan to a TIF which then had to be converted.  My other solution is posted above, bascially switching the operating system to Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.  Now with the new HP software written for that operating system the HP L7555 works as it originally did when purchased and used with XP Professional.

Quite frankly their technicians admitted that their software was not working compatibly correctly with Windows Vista and they offered to buy me out at 50% value which I rejected as it was a brand new machine essentially and it should have been covered 100% per their warranty.  HP hardware usually isn't their problem, it's their bloated software, especially with the Windows Vista operating system.

Hopefully if you provide more information one of us will be able to help you.

I have an HP C4280 Photosmart All-in-One.  For several months now, I have been able to do everything except scan.  Everytime I try to scan I get the "HP CUE Scanning Flow Component has stopped working...." error.  I have been trying to work with HP Tech Support about this for about a week now.  I have tried the uninstall/reinstall of the software - didn't work.  I have tried every suggestion they have sent me, even their suggestion to install a patch that clearly was not intended for my printer model.

Nothing has worked.

I can scan in Paint -- so what?  Photo scanning in Paint is pathetic.

Does anyone out there have a REAL fix for this?  Please help.  Thanks.

Have an HP 6300 all in one and had "hp cue scanning flow component stopped working" message when scanning.  1st. Don't re-install software.  Find HP Diagnostic Scanning Down load for you computer system and run it (mine was VISTA).  System check scanning system and re-established flow component connection.  Worked well.  Hope this works for others.
