This post pertains to HP’s use of dynamic security features on select printer models

Dynamic security is a process that authenticates supplies in order to prevent the use of supplies that do not have an Original HP chipor with modified or non-HP electronic circuitry. HP includes this feature to protect your printer from potential functionality risks that could be introduced by supplies using cloned chips, to protect HP’s intellectual property and to reduce counterfeiting of HP supplies and warranty fraud. Refilled or remanufactured supplies that still use an Original HP Chip or electronic circuitry will continue to be accepted by the printer.

An optional firmware update to remove dynamic security from the printers in the table below has been made available for customers that were unknowingly affected by it, see Dynamic Security Feature Affecting Cartridges Using Non-HP Security Chip for details on how to download and install this firmware.

As part of a commitment to improve communication of the use of dynamic security features on our printers, the packaging of the printer models in the table below has been updated to state that they have the dynamic security feature. Online product specifications for these printers on the HP Official Store have also been updated to state that they have the dynamic security feature.

HP believes in fair competition and does not employ technology preventing the use of refilled and remanufactured cartridges. Our printers with the dynamic security feature may not operate with a cartridge that does not include an Original HP chip.
