HP Web Jetadmin
Microsoft Windows Server 2016

Hi,

running HP Web Jetadmin 10.4SR7 (10.4.109068) and the Discovery is gathering devices from two templates:

  • local network range (HP Pagewide 477)
  • PC connected devices (2 devices on USB ports of 1 computer running HP WS Proxy Agent) (HP Pagewide 477, HP Laserjet  M454)

This is the same HP Pagewide 477 device but from different sources of discovery.

WJA correctly shows 2 devices with different IP addresses, Mac addresses, but the same S/N.

However, when I push for the data collection I receive "Device Change Error" interestingly on the network model for all data collection groups except for the Device Inventory.

At the same time, data collection on all groups works perfectly for the PC connected devices.

The error for the Data Collection on network device remains even if I disconnect the USB connection to the PC.

Here is a screenshot showing same device recognized by WJA as two devices with different sources (which is OK):

Here is a screenshot showing the data collection for device utilization:

Questions:

  • does WJA recognize that this is actually same machine and then not collect usage data for networked one? (how does it choose which source to collect and which to ignore?)
  • why does WJA do not do the collection even after the USB to PC is disconnected?
  • what is the correct process in scenario where printer is being moved by user from USB connected to network device or vice versa (I would like to know if there is any action which need to be performed in WJA so that the data collected remain its integrity regardless of the change of the source of discovery or the change of IP address or the change of PC to which it is connected)

Cheers,

Johnny
