Hi all,

Like a lot of my forum posts on here, the title says everything.

Over the last few weeks, I've noticed that sometimes my laptop would make really loud grinding-type sounds, and as of recent, they've been happening more frequently.

I recorded the grinding sounds and they can be heard here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/18by9-HrWDVT-C2uJn6IG95QbgSzfd1dz/view?usp=sharing

I'm guessing this sound is coming from the CPU fan, but I'm not entirely sure about that. How can I fix this? (That is, if there's a fix for this issue.)
Thanks in advance!

Hi,

Yes, you are correct. You will need to replace the fan which is quite an easy procedure. You can follow the steps on page 85 of the service manual

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03659338

the part number for the fan is 641839-001

You can perform an online search with the part number to find a compatible fan.

Ex:

https://www.amazon.com/s?k=641839-001&ref=nb_sb_noss

Hope it helps,

David
