The Pavilion is a little more powerful. It has a slightly faster processor and a much better video card.
The Envy has a larger main storage drive. 256 gigs PCIe M.2 which will be very fast.
The Pavilion has a 128 gig SATA M.2 still pretty fast but small by today's standards, but has an old school big 1 TB mechanical drive for storage.
Obviously also a slight price differential as well.
Both have 1920 x 1080 screens
The Pavilion has 16 gigs RAM and the Envy has 8. The Envy has a USB-C port which is the newest type. The Pavilion does not. The battery on the Pavilion is 4 cell, 3 cell on the Envy. Both have excellent Intel wireless cards (dual channel) with bluetooth.
If the 170 pound price difference does not bother you the Pavilion is the more powerful machine. You will have to exercise some discipline to keep the 128 gig drive from filling up but that is not too hard to do. You can't really go wrong with either laptop. Plenty of power and good display resolution with good network connectivity.
