HP Z220 CMT
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Dual boot (windows 10/8.1) via two drives.   Kept defaulting to sata1 (windows 8.1).  Bios had 5 entries for "windows boot manager" that did not identify the drive or sata port.   within bios, I used the restore defaults and reboot option.

Now system wont post.  I unplugged system and all drives and usb, internal cards...  still wont post, nothing on screen, no beeps, or keyboard lights.

After 30 seconds, fans run full speed and sound like vacuum cleaner.

Core i7 with 16 gigs ram and was very stable.

The workstation had a few weeks left under its warrantry.   HP sent a tech to replace the systemboard and it is fully operational.

Can you still go into the BIOS?  If so, assuming the Z220 bios is anything like the one in the Z420 etc. try changing the Device Options settings from Legacy to EFI or vice versa (PXE, mass storage, video).

If not, perhaps try to reset the CMOS (unplug power cord and hold down the button on the board for a few seconds) then try to enter the bios.

Not able to get into bios. Monitor stays in power save mode the system is power up.  Tried two monitores and two usb/ps2 keyboards with nearly every Function key at startup and powerup.

I tried a different video card and swiched the ram chips around.   Literally, the only thing that works, is the power button.

I see used system boards on eBay.   Hate for the rest to go to waste.
