Z420, Z620, Z820
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Just wanted to get your feedback on the boot up time / behaviour of your Z workstations. I am writing specifically with regard to the Z420 but I guess the same is also applicable to Z620, Z820 etc.

I am using Win 10 Pro, bios settings are EFI, fast boot is enabled.

When I press the power button I have to wait a moment (maybe 5- 10 seconds) before the HP splash screen appears. During that time either the fans run at full speed and then go down to normal operating speed, or only slightly spin up before returing to normal operating speed. After the splash screen appears, the boot processors flies from thereon (I am booting from a Samsung 950 Pro NVMe drive).

The questions which I have is:

- is the 5-10 second wait before the HP splash screen appears normal? All my boot devices are UEFI compliant (video card is a GTX 1070)

- any reason why sometimes the fans run at full speed during boot up and sometimes only slightly spin up before settling down?

Obviously nothing wrong per se with the above behaviour, but would be interested in how your machiens are behaving in this aspect.

I have a z420 with dual K4000's and an Evo 850, my computer does the same on reboot/power on. I'm going to guess the BIOS are doing something with the northbridge? I'm just assuming here i have't gotten ahold of an HP tech to ask but i have a few settings on mine that I would assume cause a slower BIOS boot up like virtualization and some slight power tweaks.

As long as the boot up between the HP BIOS splash isn't slow to load windows you should be fine.
