I recently found my old HP Pavilion a6228x after 2 months of not using it, and hooked it up to my w1907 monitor with a vga cable. It says that there is no VGA or DVI input signal, with the black arrow pointing at DVI. I can't switch from DVI to VGA because everytime I press the menu button, the screen will say "Monitor going to sleep." The monitor works fine with my laptop and the same vga cable. Help?

It seems like it's scanning the vga port too, so maybe your graphics chip is no longer working?
Do you have a graphics card added?
Have you tried to boot into safe mode or do you have no display at all?

Since the monitor and cable are known to be good then make sure that you are plugging the video card into the video card's VGA port if a a video card is installed. If the video card has a DVI port then use a native DVI cable between the monitor and the video card.
If there is a video card in your PC then try reseating it (remove and replace). If that doesn't work then remove the video card and plug the VGA cable into the motherboard's VGA port.
Only connect one active video feed to the monitor.
Try a monitor reset. Unplug the monitor’s power cord and hold down the monitor’s power button for 30-60 seconds. Plug the monitor back in and power it up.

If yes, then your graphics output has gone.
If no, then you can check memory, hard drive - else your mobo has gone.
