I've been frustratingly trying to record audio onto my computer. I have the input line going into the speaker/microphone line on the bottom of the computer, but I can't find out to set that as the input. I've even tried using the HDMI cable as the input to no avail. Many thanks for your help! This is driving me crazy!

Hi,
Welcome to HP Support Forum. The following ports are at the bottom of your machine
- USB 3.0: 2
- Headphone/Microphone combo port
- Memory card reader
Source: http://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c04722697
Port # 2 is a combo port and normally it won't support a stand alone microphone. It is designed for headsets. To be able to record sounds, please try the following option
https://www.amazon.com/Unknown-345233-Sound-Card-Adaptor/dp/B0044EOQO4
or better card:
https://www.startech.com/Cards-Adapters/Sound/USB-Audio/External-USB-Sound-Card~ICUSBAUDIOMH
Regards.
