Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an HP Envy Beats All-in-one 23-n011na desktop that I've been using happily for years. My warranty has expired btw.

I use my Xbox as an HDMI in source and use the PC as a monitor - it's good.

A while ago I noticed I couldn't change the volume when I was using my Xbox, it was stuck on one setting (50%  I think).

This is annoying as if I want to play when it's late I can't have game sound on.

I can control the sound easily with the volume rocker when I'm using my PC on Windows, I just can't control it when it's using HDMI.

Can anyone help me, please?

Any drivers I might need to reinstall?

Thanks

Hi @dshiers,

Good Day.  Thanks for reaching out to the HP community. I understand that you need assistance regarding issues where the volume gets stuck at 50%on your Xbox when connected to the computer via HDMI cable. I will be really glad to assist you here.

Commendable description of the issue before posting. Kudos to you for that. 🙂

  • Did this happen after a software or windows update?
  • Have you tried a different HDMI cable?
  • Have you tried the Xbox on a different computer to isolate if the issue is with the Xbox or the computer?
  • Is there any firmware update for the Xbox?

For a start, please try these steps.

  • Please try a different HDMI cable?
  • Connect the Xbox to a different computer as the Volume from the computer itself seems to be working fine and if the Xbox has the same issue on another computer then the issue is with the Xbox and not the computer.
  • Also, please update the bios, chipset, display and audio drivers from this link: http://hp.com/drivers and select the country and type the product# of the computer. Then select the operating system and follow the on-screen instructions.
  • Some of the computer’s drivers may not be available. Please update only those drivers that are available and restart the computer and check again.
  • This might do the trick for you if the issue is with the notebook. Please ensure that you perform these steps patiently as it might resolve the issue for you.
  • Please check sound related issues from this link HP PCs - Troubleshooting HDMI Display and Sound Issues (Windows 10, 8, 7)

and perform these steps:

  • Select HDMI sound output as the default audio device
  • Use the Windows Sound troubleshooter
  • Perform a hard reset and update the device drivers
  • Troubleshoot specific HDMI issues

Hope this helps. Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great.

To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.

Take care now and have a superb week ahead. 🙂
