Pavilion 510-P052il
Linux

Hi,

I have a 510-P052il with Windows 10 and CentOS 7.3. Windows is installed a few partitions after CentOS.

Whenever I am running CentOS the system freezes and reboots randomly (some packages are also not working although i am sure that i have the repositories correct). After the freeze the screen shows an error like:

firmware bug: BIOS has corrupt hw PMU resources    and a few more lines

There are some solutions here: http://h20565.www2.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?sp4ts.oid=4268690&docId=emr_na-c03265132&lang=en-...

Should I opt for the same solution? Will the system boot correctly after this?

Thanks.

Welcome to HP Forums,

This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂

As I understand you've been using the Linux CentOS and the same has been crashing at times,

I'd like to thank you for the detailed description of your concern, as you have ensured I don't have to ask any more questions, that said, I'd like to let you know that HP doesn't support Linux within our consumer desktops products,

And as a result, I recommend you contact either the centOS support or a local tech for further assistance.

Keep me posted,

If the information I've provided was helpful,

give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,

that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!

Good Luck.

Hi RD,

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get help from CentOS forums. I don't know why HP does not support Linux on desktops.

Do you think that the firmware bug can cause abrupt computer freezes? If so how in the UEFI settings can i stop it? The settings for this desktop seems different from the solutions i am seeing on the net.

@samrat_rao

Thank you for replying with this overwhelming and detailed response 😉

I appreciate your time and efforts,

I'd love to help if I could but considering HP doesn't support Linux there's pretty much nothing we can do to help you with this particular predicament,

I would suggest you contact a local tech or if the product is under warranty with HP, perhaps, the premium support/Smart friend team could help you figure this one out:

Please use the following link to create yourself a case number, then call and it may help speed up the call process:

Step 1. Open link: www.hp.com/contacthp/

Step 2. Enter Product number or select to auto detect

Step 3. Scroll down to "Still need help? Complete the form to select your contact options"

Step 4. Scroll down and click: HP contact options - click on Get phone number to obtain a case along with the phone number.

They will be happy to assist you immediately.

If you wish to show appreciation for my efforts,

Mark my post as Accepted Solution.

And click on the Purple Thumbs up icon at the bottom of my comment.
