Yes, it would work with a motherboard that has UEFI. However, HP has their motherboards made to their specs and are not the same as retail versions. It is difficult to find a motherboard that has holes to match the stand-offs in the case. Also, the connectors in the case are not always the same as retail motheboards.

What is the make / model of the video card that you are trying to install? It would be good if you could add a link to it. I will be able to help you better when I have this information.

Thank you for the additional information, @Storuu.
The reason that the video card is not working properly is because it needs UEFI in the motherboard instead of a standard/Legacy BIOS. HP didn't begin using UEFI until mid-October, 2012. There is no way to upgrade to UEFI. The last cards not to require UEFI are the GTX 660/670's.
I suggest choosing a manufacturer and contacting their Tech Support for help with getting the best card for your system. MSI makes some of their models with a switch that allows them to work with either a Legcy BIOS or UEFI.

I highlighted the the UEFI feature in orange. If you decide to go with this motherboard, you should contact the manufacturer's Tech Support to see if they know if it will work in your case.
