HP EliteDesk 800 G2 (L2X86AV)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi all

<edit>See solution from HP Partner center below on 2nd post</edit>

This is basically a follow-up to a similar forum thread for the EliteBook G1 that was never (publicly) resolved.

I am troubleshooting the issue with a HP EliteDesk 800 G2 (L2X86AV) connected to the HP Z2n" Monitor (K7C09A4), attached via DisplayPort. When doing a cold boot, the display does not awake until Windows has booted. The display stays off when accessing the BIOS (ESC at boot followed by F10).

Is there any solution to this issue?

Thanks for reading,

- Maurice

Hi all

HP Partner support was able to help me out - setting the HP Z27n screen to "Display Port" Mode 1.2 solved the problem.

For the community, this is done like this:

  • Tap on the power icon, about 5 cm left of the lower edge- the screen menu appears
  • Select the Settings-symbol
  • Use cursor keys to move to "Input Control" , select this option  (select = blue OK sign)
  • Use cursor keys to move to "DisplayPort Mode", select
  • Use cursor keye to move to "DisplayPort 1.2", select
  • Use cursor keys to move to "Back", select multiple times until "Exit" shows, select thus leaving the menu

The issue you have raised is interesting.

Be aware that because the other thread that you mentioned is for a notebook PC, this is not really a follow-up, although the issue is similar.. They are not in the same different product divisions.

I decided to wait. Have you tried updating the BIOS from a USB flash drive?

Download the most recent BIOS from the support portal download area and double click on the HP softpaq.  There is an explanation of how to do that in the following folder and file that will be created on your hard disk when the HP softpaq is executed. C:/SWSetup/SP76626/BIOS%20Flash.htm. Double click on the BIOS%20Flash.htm file and follow the instructions.

Your desktop PC's support portal download section is at the following URL.

Using a USB Device to run HPBIOSUPDREC

HPBIOSUPDREC.exe can also be run from a USB storage device, including flash memory devices and external hard drives. To do this, insert the device and take note of the assigned drive letter. Copy HPBIOSUPDREC.exe and the associated BIOS binary file to the root of the drive indicated by the drive letter or a folder on that drive. HPBIOSUPDREC can then be executed from its location on the USB device. If the system has a BIOS Setup password enabled, then HPBIOSUPDREC will prompt for the password to be entered before completing the flash process. For more information, view Readme.txt or HPBIOSUPDREC.txt, both located in the HPBIOSUPDREC folder.
