Envy 700-056
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

I have an Envy 700-056 running Windows 8.1. Fairly regularly, the screen goes off for a couple of seconds, then comes back on. An error message saying, "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered" pops up. I have tried updating the driver and it still does it. It has AMD Radeon HD 8670D graphics. I would like to upgrade to a graphics card that will not do this. Any help is really appreciated, thanks!

Hi:

I would recommend a nVidia GT 730 or GT 1030

You can get a used but tested and working GT 730 on eBay for around $35.00.

A GT 1030 for around $70.00 in used but tested and working condition.

I prefer the fanless models.  No fan to conk out on you,and no fan noise.

New GT 1030 fanless models are around $85.00

Now if you just want a very cheap card that won't have the issues yours is having, get a used but tested and working AMD Radeon HD 6450 fanless model.

My monitor does not have that connection type, it is a VGA connection.

You can buy a DVI to VGA adapter for the Dell card I posted...
