I was wondering if the Cleveland montherboard, and the BIOS therein, would support the booting of the computer from (a yet to be purchased) SSD that was mounded on a PCI adapter. Apparently / perhaps some do or some don't.
Thanks in advance,

Sorry I was late in responding. I had to open my PC to find the info on the card. This is what I have that should also work for you
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816124045
- 2 x SATA 6.0Gb/s Internal Connectors
- Up to 6Gb/s
- PCI-Express x1 Interface
And it injects itself into the boot process to be used as the boot source if you wish. Hope that helps.

I see that the Cleveland montherboard has 4 SATA ports, I know they make SSD's that use SATA ports. What is this PCI adapter? Please an example of the adapter of which you are asking.

I see why that question was asked as the explanation for the adapter has the stipulation "Operating System Software can be installed on mounted SSD and booting of the OS from the installed PCIE disk is supported ( Your mother board BIOS need to support this feature ) "
I do not know for certain but an OEM motherboard that old - probably not. It would be iffy on the SATA port, as they are not SATA 6.0 but SATA 3.0, so not a real incentive to use a SSD, IMHO.

If I remember correctly, the tech at Staples told me I have SATA 2 ports; which can fully saturate the bandwith utilized by a mechanical hard disk drive.
But if I bought an add on card, that had a SATA 3 port on it and plugged the SATA cable into that, I could see 500 MB p/sec. Because, that's how fast a x1 v2 PCI slot will go. Which is pretty close to the top speed of a SATA port found on a motherboard - aprox. 540 MB p/sec or thereabouts.
Would the BIOS/Mobo (?) suport a setup like that?
Thanks in advance,

I do not know for sure, but I highly doubt the SSD could be used for a boot drive. The card controller needs to have a BIOS built in to interject itself into the motherboard to allow the SSD to be a boot drive. Since it does not really say it has that, then I doubt it would function that way. I have a PCIxE SATA card with SATA 6.0 ports on it and it does have the BIOS built in to support a boot drive. You could go that way and get the higher speed and the boot drive to a SSD, if interested.

Which one do you have? Could you give me the model No.? Does it require a power cable like molex? Which PCI-e slot does it go into? (I'm limited to just PCI-e x1)
Please let me know...

One quick question:
Could I buy the card you suggest, and , because of the absence of any USB ports on the back of the card, then plug my WD Passport External 4TB Drive, (I'd be using that as drive to do my backups,) could I plug that drive into a USB 3.0 hub?
I ask, because, it seems many people/manufacturers want their products plugged into the main board...
Thanks in advance,
