HP 6000 AIO Pro
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a HP 6000 AIO Pro that is working great, but I would like to put a larger hard drive in since right now I have a 250GB drive.  I have a WD Black 1 TB drive to put in the unit, but it will not recognize the drive even after the drive is cloned.  It tells me that no drive can be found.  When I check the disk, it shows the data that I cloned to it.  Is their something I'm missing trying to migrate to the new drive?  I've also tried it doing a fresh install of the OS.

Hi:

Your PC may be suffering from this issue if you installed a sata III hard drive...

http://h20566.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?sp4ts.oid=3718645&docId=emr_na-c02711513&lang=en&c...

I had a similar issue with my dc7800 CMT.

I bought a WD Caviar Black 1 TB SATA III hard drive.  I was able to install the operating system, but when I would boot up or restart the PC, most of the time (95%), I got the boot drive not found error.

I assumed the drive was bad, so I RMA'd it, and the replacement drive did the same thing.

I have an HP 8200 Elite CMT that came with a Seagate 1 TB SATA III hard drive.

For kicks, I put that in my dc7800, and it worked just fine.  It has been running in that machine for well over 3 years now without a hitch.

I put the WD hard drive in my 8200 Elite and it worked fine in that PC, since it has a sata III drive controller.

None of our PC's are listed on this support document, but the symptoms are identical.

That was exactly the issue.  It took me a couple of days to dig up a SATA II 1TB drive, but once I did and did a fresh install of the OS, It now works perfectly with the drive I installed.  I don't think I've ever had a similar issue with any other computer I've used/owned.

Sorry that you had the same issue, but glad that I was able to help you determine the root cause.

It is interesting that I have a dc7900 and an 8000 Elite (the 8000 Elite is almost identical to the 6000 Pro. It has a slightly better Intel series 4 chipset) both with SATA II controllers, and the SATA III drives I put in those work just fine.

Go figure!
