I have a HP Envy 700-147c. I noticed I don't have a FireWire i.LINK IEEE 1394 cable port to transfer my Sony HDV-1080i video camera foottage. The capture programs I use will not pickup USB transfered signals. I understand I need to purchase and install hardware into an slot. Can I get some info on products I can purchase?
My questions are:
Which is best, x1 or x16?
Do I need the low profile?
Do I need to have a power connection to it?
Will I need any additional software?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Yes, it can be done. Firewire is going by the wayside just buy an add-on card that fits in the one of the 3 PCI Express x1 (Gen2.0) should work just fine. Here is an example
Or this one:

I'm not an HP employee.
