Does anyone know if it is possible to easily upgrade an Intel Skylake i5 6400 processor to a KabyLake processor? Based on the socket type, it should be possible...

And if this is possible, does this require a BIOS update?

The reason I'm asking is that I do a lot of video / graphical editing which requires sufficient processor performance and on the long term, it would be more convenient to use a higher performance processor and -of course- then I would prefer a processor of the latest generation, possibly the i7 7700 or i5 7600 (i5 7600 is much cheaper than i7 7700, although still  significant higher performance than i5 6400).

According the HP website, it is only possible to upgrade with Skylake processors:

Hi,

Even if the processor socket is the same, it would need to recognized by BIOS. I didn't see any Bios updates for the use of Kaby lake on this motherboard.

If you are planning on getting new processor it would be best idea to also get a new Motherboard (micro-atx) with new chipset which will not cost that much more.

Hope it helps,

David
