Hello,
My desktop started just shutting off on me a few weeks ago. I opened the case to clean the inside and fans (because this has happened before and it worked fine after I cleaned it). I unplugged some stuff and now I can't remember where the SATA and ASLink cables are supposed to go. If anyone could help me, I would greatly appreciate it.

Without the model number it will be difficult to give exact help. The SATA connections are one end on a hard drive and motherboard or a DVD/BluRay drive to the motherboard. Also hard drives and DVD/BluRay drives require a power connection. Start with those to check and return to normal.
I'm not an HP employee.
