I need to know details on what size HD and cables I need for adding a SSD dive in a 550-126?  It will be my system drive with the existing drive moving to the second drive bay for data storage.

Plysical size, 2.5 or?  I want to purchase a WD SSD 256Gb, 2.5"

Do I need adapter brakets if I get the 2.5?

Do I need to buy any additional cables, Sata data or power?

I'm going to reinstall the OEM recovery disks.

Thanks in  advance!

Hi,

You can mount a 2.5" SSD or HD at the below inside location. I suggest a 500 GB or larger SSD or HD.

Similar posts for the 550 chassis have already been made on the forum. You might want to do a search. A standard SATA data cable is needed .  You will probably need to obtain a SATA Y power cable so that you can split the power off the existing HD.  Unplug the original HD when using the OEM recovery disks. After the recovery is successful then swap the original HD's SATA cable with the new SSD's SATA cable.  You should be good to go at that point.

I had done several searches and never found what size drive bays the 550-126 series had..  Thanks for your responce.

I did see one post that mentioned in order to uswe the OEM recovery disks it is required the new system drive HAD to be at least the size of  original drive.  Can you confirm this?  The OEM drive is 1Tb.
