I have an error code showing up on my hard drive: HD521-2W. Would you advise reformatting the drive and reinstalling windows or should I replace Hard drive? If I need to replace, what can I use? I have read that serial ATA is the new interface. Can I use that with my motherboard? Is my motherboard a SATA 1 or is it SATA 2? I need to know all this before I replace my hard drive if I need to. Thanks!

@pattytig, welcome to HP Forums, this is a great place to get support, find answers and tips.
Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out.
I understand that you get a hard drive error HD521-2W on your HP Pavilion Elite HPE-367c Desktop PC.
This could be a hardware issue with the hard drive and hence, needs to be replaced.
Any hard drive with SATA connector can be installed on the same motherboard.
You may check the service guide at the link: http://hp.care/2hzzazP
If you do not have a recovery kit for windows 7, then you need to call the HP Phone Support at the link to order one: www.hp.com/contacthp
Let me know how that works.
I hope you have a good day ahead.
