HP Z2 Tower G4 Workstation

Hi, my workstation came only with integrated graphics. To upgrade is I chose from the list on the official page (https://support.hp.com/si-en/document/c06100744) and ordered a Radeon Pro WX7100 8 GB Graphics.

When installed in the PCle3 x 16 slot, the GPU doesn't get recognized. It gets recognized when installed in the PCle3 x 16 (4), but there is no video output, not from the GPU and not from the motherboard. The Device Manager lists the events: Device install requested, Device configured, Device not started.

I've updated my BIOS, my drivers, checked the cables. The fan works.

The wx7100 should have worked.  Do you have the 500 watt or the larger power supply?   The 250 will not work

What other PCIe boards do you have?

Card is defective or power supply inadequate.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I have an 500 W power supply and one Wi-FI card installed, the other PCLe slots are free. I've used the video you've linked when connecting the card, and the fan on the GPU is working when connected. I've also updated my bios, my drivers, reset the motherboard, reinstalled the card multiple times. Unfortunately I only have one desktop so I can't check if the card is working on another one. 😕

Remove the WiFi card if it is a PCIe type and see if gpu starts working.  There may be a resource sharing problem.

Use the left slot for the GPU and if it starts working try  the x16 slot for the wifi

[edit]  You should have Wi-Fi in #17

No need to remove it.

Thank you for the suggestion, I removed the WiFi card (I'm not using WiFi anyway). But unfortunately the gpu still doesn't work. 😞

Did you use these drivers?

I've tried installing them manually multiple-times from this linked AMD page, but the installation breaks up with the notification that no AMD hardware is detected. But I've updated the AMD graphics drivers with my HP Performance Advisor and the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.

Download gpu-z and verify you have wx-7100

https://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/

put the board in the slot where it is recognized.

bios should should be

or might be this version

Thank you BeemerBiker. I've downloaded the GPU-Z, but when the board is in the slot where it gets recognized, it only gets recognized but it doesn't work. I'm also not able to use the computer with the board in the slot as there is no video output. That the board gets recognized initially I can only tell from the the Device Manager list of events: Device install requested, Device configured, Device not started. But I can look that up only after removing the board and restarting the computer. The board is then not listed under Display adapters and I can only see it when I enable the option "show hidden devices". Then the card is listed as Radeon PRO WX 7100.

Unfortunately, I don't understand the BIOS part. 😞 I did enter the BIOS and tried to locate any info on the graphics, but couldn't find any. I ran all the diagnostic tool I could fins there and everything came back clear. And I've updated the BIOS to the latest version but that's it what I could manage. I don't have the courage to mess with other BIOS settings I'm not familiar with.

I suspect there is a problem with the graphics card.

The reason I asked you to try GPU-z is because that app can identify fake graphics boards and can show what bios was in the board.  Some used boards in that class (wx-7100) may have been re-programmed for mining.   Normally, when this is done, the bios is flashed back to the original bios before being sold..

I once bought a fake GTX-1050ti  and GPU-z was able to identify it.

What does GPU-z show for the wx-7100, if anything?  Can you post an image of the GPU-z screen?

Do you have or can you borrow another graphics board for testing in the x16 slot?
