HP Envy 700-056
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
I have tried everything I can find on web. I have purchased a new motherboard. I have tried 6 different video cards all different models and styles. I recently found a message thread that said the Radeon R7750 worked on the same exact computer so I went ahead and bought it. Still nothing. I have done the whole secure boot stuff and legacy stuff and I am just at my wits end with this dang computer. Every other HP I have works with every video card I have tried. Just not this one. What am I to do.

I actually did what you said again and made it work.

I took the card out

Reset the bios settings and booted to Windows

Turned off computer

Turned on computer and changed to the legacy support settings

Booted into Windows and then shut down

Installed the card and bam it worked.

Very happy camper here. Thanks for your help.

Hi,

Six different video cards?

At least one manufacturer recommends using a 400 watt power supply with the 7750. Your PC only has a 300 watt power supply. The 300 watt PSU may be marginal and not being able to supply enough power.

Try the 7750 in another PC to make sure that it works.

The reality is that there is no guarantee that any particular graphics card will work in any particular PC even if the graphics card works in other PCs or even the same or similar model PCs. Know what the return policy is before you buy.

Check the BIOS level in your PC verses the level that is posted by HP.

Yes six different video card. I have tried GeForce & Radeon. I have even put older cards that only have 256meg or 512 meg just to see if they will work. No matter what I do the only video that works is onboard.

I have a 750 watt power supply that I bought before I ever tried to install the first video card. The video card I currently have the 7750 does work in every other computer I put it in.

Also when I got the new motherboard I went ahead and upgraded the processor. It now has a AMD A10-5800K APU with Radeon™ HD Graphics. But the FPS are not that great. I also upgraded the ram to 32GB RipJaws. Thanks for your help.

Hi,

What exactly is happening when you attempt to power up your PC?

You didn't state in your first post that you had installed a 750 watt PSU. :Surprise: Obviously your PC has issues with I suspect way too many changes being made at once.

Run a full set of diagnostics.  Your should update the diagnostics first before running a complete set.

Post the current BIOS level installed in your PC.  Did you check the BIOS level verses what is posted for your PC?

I have left for the weekend this is the computer I use at work. But after you mentioned the bios in your first post I went ahead and updated it to the latest version available on the HP website. My apologies for not staying that I had updated the power supply and processor in the beginning. The reason I had to replace mo motherboard is because my first one stopped working. Ironically the on board video stopped working. But it also never worked with a after market video card ether. Yes I have made a lot of changed to it but it's nothing that the computer isn't suppose to be able to handle. When I first turn the computer on all it does is boot up like normal. The on board video card has display while the add on video card has power but does not have any display. Windows also does not read the add on video card. To be honest I am not a fan of the bios on this computer, I wish I could just go change a setting from on board to add on video card like most others allow. It's like no matter what the pci slot doesn't work. Now one thing I did leave it is there is also a option in bios for slot security and in order to keep the computer from not booting up and beeping I did have to disable the slot security on the pci x16 slot. I have been through so much with this things it is hard to remember everything at once to share with you. Just banging my head on the table trying to figure this out. Only dang computer I have ever had this problem with. This diagnostic you speak of is that one of the boot options I have? If so I'll check that out. Thanks again.

Hi,

I can't tell from your previous response if the onboard video in your new motherboard is working. If it's a new motherboard then it should work without the video card installed. If not, return it under warranty.

As previously requested, what is the BIOS level in your PC?

What were the results to the full set of diagnostics?

If the full set of diagnostics run clean, then I suggest that you reset the BIOS changes back to the default settings with the exception of the following: disable secure boot and enable legacy mode.

I will get you the answers Tuesday off for the holiday.

But Yes the on board video on the new motherboard always works.

It works even if I have a add on video card installed.

I have also tried exactly what you said in the last section of your post.

I'll get you the bios level and diagnostics ASAP.

Thanks again.
